In 2014, Colavita USA funded a trip for forty Italian employees to travel to the company’s production center in Edison, NJ. This trip aimed to teach Italian employees how their work in Italy impacts the United States. It also served as a cultural exchange for both the Americans and their Italian counterparts, as they were given ample opportunities to mingle with one another. CEO Giovanni Colavita gave a tour of Colavita USA to the Italian employees and showed how the product in Italy is then packed and distributed throughout the United States. Following the tour, the Italian employees were welcomed to an Italian style banquet which allowed for further bonding and discussion about the production and distribution of Colavita.
Colavita was established in 1938 and has remained a family company since then. Enrico Colavita explained, “the company is the extension of our family. All these people are my family.” Colavita exemplifies and embodies the ideals a family company. Enrico continued, saying, “we never fired a single person… even during the crisis when other businesses were doing it”. Although thousands of miles separate the two companies, the company trip to the United States “seemed like a big family party”.
