Brignolata (Sausage Roll)
This is served at Christmas and other festive occasions.
Origin: Italian
Ingredients:

1 pound bread dough
2 tablespoons red wine
1 pound hot or sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water


Preparation:


Add wine to sausage, mix well and divide in 4 equal parts. Divide dough into 4 parts, roll each piece 1/4" thick, 3" wide and 12" long. Spread sausage along the length of the dough, fold and seal edges. Roll each strip around your finger to form a pinwheel. Tuck the ends under. Brush top with beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes until brown. Serve warm. Makes 8 servings
