Affogato
Affogato means "drowned" in Italian. It is a very popular dessert in Italy where hot espresso is poured over gelato or ice cream right before it is eaten.  Gelato is denser then ice cream and melts slower, but either works with this recipe.
Origin: Colavita Test Kitchen
Ingredients:

Per Serving:
1 - 2 scoops vanilla gelato or ice cream
1/4 cup brewed Antica "Wood-roasted" Espresso
1- 2 teaspoons sugar, optional
2 tablespoons heavy cream, whipped to soft peaks, optional
Chopped or shaved Perugina Dark Chocolate, optional

Preparation:

Brew the espresso according to package directions.  If you prefer a sweeter espresso, stir in the optional sugar, to taste.  In a glass, put 1 - 2 scoops of ice cream or gelato, pour the hot espresso over.  Top with the whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired.  Serve immediately.

Variation: Use chocolate or coffee flavored ice cream or gelato.
