Molise is a quaint and rural region of Italy located in the south-central part of the country. It possesses a lush and dramatic mountainous landscape at one end, which gradually smooths out into sandy beaches where it meets the Adriatic Ocean. Only three hours from Rome by car, Molise is well worth a visit. Known for its woodlands, hills, mountains, and ancient ruins dating back even before the Roman Empire,
the Molise region is one of the least populated or touristy areas in all of Italy. Enjoyed mostly by vacationing Italians from other parts of the country, it is an area frequented by historians, hikers, skiers, bikers, nature enthusiasts and beach lovers.
Its mountain resort of Campitello Matese provides the best skiing in central Italy during the winter, while the historic beach town of Termoli on the Adriatic Ocean is enjoyed by local tourists during the summer. With its green hilly landscape, Molise is an agricultural region famous for the production of olive oil, pasta, cheese and wine. Visitors to Molise enjoy the hospitality of the Molisani people and artisan food producers who provide food and wine tastings and tours throughout the year.
