There's no easier way to reduce cholesterol in American cooking than by replacing butter with all-natural, cholesterol-free olive oil. And with the rich, full taste of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, you don't have to compromise flavor.

As sponsor of the Better-Than-Butter Recipe Contest , Colavita will award winning recipes that best demonstrate how we can replace butter with Extra Virgin Olive Oil in typical American meals. From favorite children's foods to grown-up tastes, prepared from scratch or adapted from favorite package-mix items, we will search for creative recipes with broad appeal to the American palate.


OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES

  1. Entries will be accepted by U.S. mail or Internet e-mail. Entries submitted by mail should be typed or neatly handwritten on clean, white paper. Illegible entries will not be accepted. Along with your recipe, please include: your name, daytime telephone number and full address. You must be at least 18 years old to participate and a legal resident of the U.S.
  2. Your entry must be your own original creation or adaptation of a familiar recipe, using Extra Virgin Olive Oil in place of the traditional butter ingredient. All recipe entries must include Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil as an ingredient.
  3. Your recipe should serve four to six people. It must include a list of ingredients in order of use and step-by-step preparation instructions. A color photograph of the finished product is welcome but not required. (If submitting digital photos, 300 bpi resolution is preferred). If you have a story to tell relating to your creation, please include it.
  4. You may submit your recipe in one of three categories: Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Make sure to tell us which category you wish to enter.
  5. You may enter as often as you wish using different recipes, but each recipe entry must be submitted separately. One recipe per envelope.
  6. Mail your recipe and required information to: Colavita Better-Than-Butter Recipe Contest, P.O. Box 9143, Elizabeth, NJ 07202. Or, send it by email to: usa@colavita.com ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY JANUARY 31, 2001. Contest participants agree to allow entries to be used by Colavita USA for all uses, including publicity, promotion and marketing with no monetary compensation. (See Rule # 9)
  7. A panel of independent food specialists will judge the entries. Qualified entries will be judged with equal emphasis on: ability to replace butter with Extra Virgin Olive Oil; creativity in an original recipe, or creative approach to adapting a common American recipe; appeal to a wide spectrum of American tastes; creative use of ingredients; ease of preparation; and taste. In accordance with the above criteria, adaptations of package-mix preparations are permitted. Entries become the sole property of Colavita USA, LLC and will not be returned. Decision of judges is final. Preliminary judging will take place in February 2001. Winners will be notified by mail within four weeks of judging.
  8. Contest void where prohibited or restricted by federal or state law. Colavita USA, LLC will not be responsible for entries lost or delayed in delivery and reserves the right to disqualify illegible, mutilated, altered or illegal entries or entries that do not comply with these rules.
  9. Prizes are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash. No substitutes allowed. Total number of winners: 207. Total value of prizes awarded: $7032. Grand prize (1 winner for best overall recipe): A trip for two to Italy including economy-class round trip air travel to Rome, Italy from major U.S. airport nearest winner's residence and 5 nights' hotel accommodations in Rome, plus $500 spending allowance. Actual Retail Value ("ARV"): $3450. Subject to availability, and travel must take place during the year 2001. First Place (3 winners, one from each category): American Express Gift Certificate. ARV: $250 each. Second Place (3 winners, one from each category): one-year supply of Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil (12-1 liter tins). ARV: $144 each. Third Place (200): The Colavita Chef Collection (including oven gloves, cooking apron and Cooking With Olive Oil American-Style! soft-cover cookbooks. ARV: $12.00 each set. Winners will be notified in writing. No substitution or transfer of prizes allowed. Except as required by law, Colavita USA, its employees and officers shall not be responsible for damages resulting from these prizes or for the costs of any disputes, claims or suits. Taxes are the sole responsibility of winners. Grand prize winner and his/her guest will be required to sign and return a notarized affidavit of eligibility and general liability release prior to receiving prize, or an alternate winner will be chosen. Grand prize winner is responsible for transportation to and from the airports and for all expenses incurred that exceed the spending allowance. Colavita USA retains the right to publish the names and cities of contest winners. By entering, participants agree to be bound by Contest rules and grant permission for the sponsors to use their names, photo likenesses and recipes for publishing the results of the competition in press releases, advertisements and other promotions without compensation. Further, recipes and recipe names may be modified by Colavita USA for publicity use. Colavita USA employees, distributors, agencies and their families are not eligible.
