As sponsor of the Better-Than-Butter Recipe Contest II, Colavita will award winning recipes that best demonstrate how butter can be replaced with Extra Virgin Olive Oil in typical American meals. From favorite children's foods to grown-up tastes, prepared from scratch or adapted from favorite package-mix items, we will search for creative recipes with broad appeal to the American palate.
There's no easier way to reduce cholesterol in American cooking than by replacing butter with all-natural, cholesterol-free Extra Virgin Olive Oil. And as the contestants of original Better-Than-Butter Recipe Contest demonstrated convincingly, you don't have to compromise flavor.
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
1. Eligibility.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. You must be at least 18 years old and a legal resident of the U.S. to participate. Employees of Colavita USA, L.L.C. or of their agents, including wholesalers and retailers and members of such employees' immediate families and household members, are not eligible. Entries not meeting all of the requirements stated in these rules will be disqualified and ineligible to win prizes. All federal, state and local laws apply.
2. Rules and Requirements.
Each recipe entry must be an original creation of the entrant or an adaptation of a familiar recipe, using Extra Virgin Olive Oil in place of the traditional butter ingredient. All recipe entries must include Colavita® Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Recipes that have been previously published and/or submitted to the original Better than Butter Recipe Contest are not eligible.
Recipes are to be submitted in one of three categories: (1) Appetizer, (2) Entree or (3) Dessert. Each recipe must include a list of ingredients in order of use, step-by-step preparation instructions (using common U.S. household measurements) and the number of servings. A color photograph of the finished product is welcome but not required. (If submitting digital photos, 300 bpi resolution is preferred). If you have a story to tell relating to your creation, please include it.
3. How to Enter.
Entries will be accepted by U.S. mail or Internet e-mail. Entries submitted by U.S. mail should be typed or neatly handwritten on clean, white 8-1/2" x 11" paper and addressed to The Colavita Better-Than-Butter Recipe Contest II, P.O. Box 9143, Elizabeth, NJ 07202. E-mail entries must be submitted to usa@colavita.com. You may enter as often as you wish using different recipes, but each recipe entry must be submitted separately, with one recipe per envelope or e-mail message, and each entry must comply with all rules. Each entry must include: your full name, daytime telephone number, age, and full address, including street address, city, state and zip code. You may also wish to include your e-mail address, if any. Contest starts October 1, 2002 and all entries must be received by 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time on August 1, 2003. Colavita USA, L.L.C., its officers, employees and agents are not responsible for entries lost or delayed in delivery for any reason, including but not limited to computer malfunctions. Colavita USA, L.L.C. reserves the right to disqualify illegible, mutilated, altered or illegal entries or entries that do not otherwise comply with these rules.
4. Judging.
Entrants agree to be bound by the decision of the judges, which is final. Starting the week of June 1, 2003, qualified entries will be judged with emphasis on the following criteria in the following order of importance: 1) ability to replace butter with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 2) creativity in an original recipe, or creative approach to adapting a common American recipe or package mix, 3) appeal to a wide spectrum of American tastes, 4) ease of preparation and 5) taste. Finalists so chosen will be judged by food industry professionals in an as yet to be determined location and time.
5. Notification of Winners.
Winners will be notified by mail within four weeks of final judging. Winners will be required to sign and return within one week an Affidavit of Eligibility and Compliance, and Publicity and Liability Release in which the winner will be required to provide information necessary to comply with Internal Revenue Code Form 1099-MISC reporting. Should a winner fail to comply with this requirement, his or her prize will be forfeited, and may be awarded to an alternate entrant. Any prize that is unclaimed by a winning entrant or alternate by October 1, 2003 will not be awarded. Requests must be postmarked by June 30, 2003.
6. Prizes.
Grand prize: There will be one Grand Prize awarded for best overall recipe. Grand prize is a trip for two to Italy as part of an exclusive Colavita group tour departing on or about November 1, 2003. Trip consists of economy-class round trip air travel on Alitalia Airlines from major U.S. airport nearest winner's residence to Italy, 6 nights' hotel stay in Italy (double occupancy), 2 meals per day, all ground transportation and 1-2 hour daily guided tour. Approximate Retail Value ("ARV"): $5,000. First Prize: There will be three First Place winners (one from each category) awarded a one-year supply of Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil (12-1 liter tins). ("ARV"): $144 each prize. Second Prize: There will be three Second Place winners (one from each category) awarded a Colavita 'Italian Feast' Gift Basket. ("ARV"): $90 each prize. Third Prize: There will be thirty Third Place winners (ten from each category) awarded a Colavita Cookbook Collection (including a hard-cover cookbook, oven gloves and a mini Colavita cruet set.) ("ARV"): $38 each prize. Prizes are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash. No substitution of prizes allowed. Total number of winners: 37. Total value of prizes awarded: $7,842.
7. Rights to Recipes and Other Entry Materials and Publicity.
By entering this contest, entrants agree to give up all rights to ownership
of their recipes and submitted materials. By entering this contest, entrants agree to irrevocably assign and transfer, without any additional consideration, to Colavita USA, L.L.C. any and all interest in, and in any rights, including but not limited to copyrights, to the use of, all submitted works, including recipes, photos and creation stories. All submitted entry materials, and all rights to use, reproduce, modify, publish and/or distribute recipes, photos and stories submitted, for any purpose including publicity, promotions or marketing, become the exclusive property of Colavita USA, L.L.C. and will not be returned. Entrants further agree that should they be chosen as a winner, Colavita USA, L.L.C. may publish their names and likenesses in publicity or promotions without further compensation.8. Limitation of Liability and Restrictions.
If for any reason beyond the control of Colavita USA, L.L.C. the contest cannot be completed as planned, including but not limited to technical failures, computer viruses, tampering, fraud, or theft, which corrupt the integrity of the conduct and/or judging of this contest, Colavita USA, L.L.C. reserves the right in their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest.
Except as required by law, Colavita USA, L.L.C. and their affiliates and agencies, and their officers, directors, members, shareholders, employees and representatives shall not be liable for any warranty or representation concerning the nature, conditions or value of the prizes, or for any injury to any person or property which may occur in connection with the acceptance, use and/or enjoyment of any goods and/or services which constitute a prize awarded under this contest.
Taxes are the sole responsibility of winners. Grand prize winner is solely responsible for transportation to and from U.S. airports and for all expenses not specifically included as part of the prize listed herein.
